Prayer for America Day 11

Almighty God, we believe Your word that with You nothing is impossible and that You desire all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. And so we boldly pray for a massive move of God in our land. We pray for millions of hearts reopened to Jesus’ call to repent and believe the Gospel, the Good News. We pray, Lord, that we may see the days when people will listen to You and hear Your voice and will return to You. We pray this with confidence in Your word, in Your Holy Spirit and in the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, in who’s name we pray. Hear us, Oh Lord, bring life to our land. Amen.

Prayer for America Day 10

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”  Lord, in trouble times we come before You on behalf of the nations and our nation. We pray, Lord, for a mighty move of the Holy Spirit in our land, we pray that You would be honored and adored in Your church and throughout the nation, we pray that hearts would be returning to You that a mighty move of the Spirit of the Living God would restore families, marriages, communities, cities, and states.  Be still, You tell us, and know that I am God. Lord, may you be exalted in the nation. Amen.

Prayer for America Day 9

Oh Lord our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You told Your ancient people, Israel, I am the God who heals you. We pray healing over our land in these trouble days, Lord. We pray a restoration of honor and integrity in our nation’s institutions, a respect for the rule of law in our society. Restore love and devotion in our families, faithfulness in our marriages, proper education in our institutions of higher learning. Above all, we pray that You would rekindle faith and trust in You, the Living God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to whom belongs all praise and adoration now and forever. Amen.

Two Year Gospel Study Week 44

Luke 9:51-56; “Fire From Heaven”

Our study today starts with a verse stating that Jesus “resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Jesus was, without any hesitation, heading to Jerusalem, into the very city in which He knew He would suffer, be crucified and die. Knowing full well what was ahead – He resolutely – without hesitation – headed to Jerusalem. No shrinking back! Jesus was relentless in accomplishing what the Father desires.

What does the Father desire? He desires that ALL come to know Him, His love, mercy, forgiveness and life transforming power. God’s desire is that ALL people repent and come to a knowledge of Jesus our Savior.

And so to follow through on God’s heart, Jesus is relentless in pursuing the Father’s will and relentless in His pursuit of each one of us.

As we explore the next verses we read that the people in Samaria did not welcome Jesus because He was headed for Jerusalem, and they didn’t like where He was going nor did they like the people in that city. Doesn’t this make you wonder how many people have missed out on all Jesus has to offer because they are offended at something He has said, or done or something that the Bible declares.

REJECTION: Jesus was rejected over and over again, by:
1. Israel’s leaders
2. His own family
3. Samaritans

How do we feel when we are rejected? Bitter? Angry? A desire to get even? Retaliate? The Samaritan’s rejection of Jesus elicited this response from Jesus’ disciples, James and John: “Lord, do You want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”

This is not what Jesus wanted and He rebuked them but there would be a day God would send fire from heaven and that was at Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus’ ascension, when the Holy Spirit was poured out. On that day people in Samaria were filled with the Holy Spirit and drawn to the knowledge of Jesus the Messiah. Transformed. Changed forever! Gaining life, forgiveness, hope, peace, and joy. That is precisely what Jesus is still doing and desires to do today, to draw us to Himself, transform us from within and to give us joy and hope because He set His face toward Jerusalem and He went there for each one of US!

Jesus rebuked James and John that day, but in the days to come He would also transform them. This is all taking place about 6 months before Jesus’ death and resurrection and about 8 months before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is determined to accomplish all the Father desires and He is still determined to do that today in each of our lives. His desire is to fill us with His Holy Spirit, to know Him and to show His incredible love in the way we treat others.

Jesus is working to change the world one person at a time, beginning with you and me!

There also is a lesson in not growing weary – maybe we are looking around and wondering how much longer the Lord will put up with all the garbage going on in the world.

But then we see the testimony of Jesus’ life and how much our Savior gave of himself to accomplish our salvation. When we see this we too are changed. We realize our attitudes change as well.

What God calls us to do through the life and ministry and resurrection of Jesus, is to pray for a different kind of Fire. Holy Fire. The fire of the Holy Spirit!

To forgive as we are forgiven in Christ.
To love as we are loved in Christ.
To serve as Christ has served us.

God’s heart is that people return to Him.

God’s heart is for Revival!
Awakening!

What we see in Jesus is the Father heart!

Prayer for America Day 8

We pray Psalm 85:4, “Restore us again, God our Savior.” Lord, in these rebellious times we pray for a mighty move of Your Holy Spirit. Open eyes blinded by the deception of the enemy, revive hearts hardened by the deceitfulness of sin, change minds corrupted by lies and half truths, restore wayward souls to the joy of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliver, restore us again, God our Savior.  We pray this over our nation. We pray this over the body of Christ. We pray this over our nation’s leaders and those in positions of authority and we pray this in Your strong name. Amen.

Prayer for America Day 7

Heavenly Father, we come before You in Jesus’ strong name and we pray the words of the old hymn:
God bless our native land;
firm may she ever stand
thro’ storm and night!
When the wild tempests rave,
Ruler of wind and wave,
do thou our country save
by thy great might.
Lord, we pray salvation over this land, a return to godliness, a repentant and godly spirit and a desire to love as we have been first love by You. We pray for wisdom for our nation’s leaders, and we pray that the hearts of many would turn back to You. We ask this in the power of Your Holy Spirit and pray this in Jesus’ strong name. Amen.

The Gospel According to Matthew – Week 33

This teaching is from Matthew 23:29 – 24:8.

Pastor Dodge finishes up looking at the seven woes today with an exploration of the 7th. Jesus continues in this 7th woe to convict the teachers and phrases of being hypocrites. Jesus speaks this woe about acting like they were so much better than previous generations in their treatment of prophets. However Jesus tells them they are not different and that He sees their hypocrisy.

Verses 29-32 are Jesus’ prophetic words of judgement over them. Jesus knows what the next days are going to bring – His betrayal into the hands of the religious establishment, turned over to the Romans, crucified. Their ancestors murdered prophets, but those He is talking to will murder the very Son of God.

Jesus tells them that He will send them teachers and prophets and sages and that some they will kill, others they will crucify, and others they will flog and expel from town.  He tells how they are no better than their ancestors and tells the judgement they will face for this.

Jesus tells of His deep anguish in verse 37 as He expresses His deep desire to bring them back to Himself, His longing to draw them under His wing. In verses 38-39 He shares the desolation of the temple.

Moving into chapter 24 we delve into the topics of The Temple and The Last Days. As this chapter opens Jesus is with the disciples and they are looking down from the mount towards the temple and Jesus tells them that not one stone of the temple will be left on another, that the temple will be destroyed.

Today we know the truth of Jesus’ prophetic word about the temple as about 40 years after Jesus spoke these very words the temple was destroyed by the Roman army during the jewish revolt against Rome.

The disciples go on to ask Jesus when the destruction of the temple will happen and what will be the sign of the end of the age.

Jesus answers their two-part question with one answer “Watch out that no one deceives you, for many will come in my name claiming to be the Messiah and will deceive many.”  The sign of the destruction of the temple and of the end of time is deception.  Deception is one of the clear sign of the end of days.

Jesus goes on telling of wars and rumors of wars and not to be alarmed as these must happen before the end comes. Jesus tells that nation will be against nation, there will be famines, earthquakes and all these are the beginning of birth pains.

So much is contained in the words “birth pains.”  Pastor Dodge will pick up with this topic next week!  Plan to join us!

Prayer for America Day 6

Paul wrote to his dear friend and colleague Timothy, “I urged then, first of all, that petitions, prayers and intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people and for those in authority. This is good and pleases God, our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.” Lord, that is the prayer of our heart that there would be a spiritual awakening in the land, people turning back to you, beginning with the family of God. We pray, Lord, that the Holy Spirit would descend in power upon this nation, bringing people to repentance and to the joy of knowing the Living God through faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Prayer Day 5

Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”  Lord, we pray for righteousness in the land. You are our Heavenly Father and have given us every good and perfect gift. Everything we have comes from You. May we be humble before You, repentant in Your holy presence and desirous of serving You in every way.  Give good wisdom to our nation’s leaders, Godly wisdom. Give changed hearts to Your people and to all people who call on Your name that we may honor You in this land and may experience the joy of following You. In Jesus name we pray.  Amen.

The Living One – Week 29: Warning Words

Today’s message is a continued study of Paul’s farewell words of encouragement and warning to the gathering of church leaders.

Paul shares honestly that he understands his time left on earth is short. He states how he has proclaimed the whole will of God.

What is the Whole Will / Counsel of God?
CREATOR – We and the world are intentionally created by a pure, loving, holy creator who shows us how brilliant a Creator / Designer He is. His design points us right back to Him, our Designer.

CONDITION – Our condition is that – All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. None of us is righteous.

CHRIST – we all need a Savior and that Savior turns our lives around. Christ is the prophesied Messiah:
    Deity – God
Death – on the cross for us – paid the price of our sin by taking it on Himself that we might be saved.
Resurrection – His resurrection ensures our victory over death.  We will be raised on the last day when He returns.
Returning – He will return and we will have eternal life with Him forever.

Paul encourages the leaders to take care of themselves and the flocks God has given them. They are to be shepherds of the church of God.

Paul warns them of the spiritual war that is all around and to be cautious not to fall prey to the eternal and internal threats against the truth of God’s word.

Paul closes by telling them to be on guard because remaining on guard is a life and death matter. Not just a life and death matter temporally (on this earth). It is a life and death matter eternally! (Our eternal destiny).  We must be on guard – in Greek this is one word.  That word is AWAKE!

We need to wake up to the truth of what God says in the Bible.

BE AWAKE – be prepared because Jesus is coming back!

He will return, so….
Be awake in prayer
Be awake in faithfulness to God
Do not be deceived!
