God doesn’t only give joy. He is our joy! “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
7 Reasons to Pray for America
by Pastor Phil Bickel
As pre-election tensions rage, what can calm the political hurricane? Here’s an idea: For every minute you devote to keeping up with the news, spend a minute talking to God about America. Why bother?
- Talking to God is healthier than screaming at one another.
- Praying for unity is wiser than splintering even further.
- Praying for my opponents, God will show me ways to foster peace.
- Confessing my wrongs is more constructive than accusing others.
- Humbly listening is more fruitful than my taunting Tweets.
- Serving one another is wiser than tearing each other apart.
- Discovering God’s options surpasses all our political scheming.
So, pray for America. Pray with others — even with folks you disagree with.

Four Reasons to Not Freak Out
by Pastor Phil Bickel
Every Halloween people revel in creepiness, masquerading like actors in a horror film, dabbling in eerie activities that would petrify us on any other date.
Yes, we enjoy being frightened — assuming it’s fake. But when the line blurs between fake and fact, here are 4 reasons to not freak out.
1. Shadows, darkness, and danger. We welcome the dusk on All Hallows’ Eve, but avoid treading dark streets on all other nights.
While we tremble in the shadows, Jesus astonishes us with a brilliant promise: “I am the light of the world. Follow Me and you’ll never walk in darkness, but always have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
2. Witches, wizards, and incantations. Not all of this is sham and charade. In our uncertain world some people pursue spells and magic to gain power, guidance, and good luck.
While we strive for more stuff and security, Jesus stuns us: “Your heavenly Father already knows your needs. As you give priority to His kingdom and let Him guide you, He will supply every shortage.” (Matthew 6:32-33)
3. Devils, demonic possession, and hell. We hope Satan is merely a cartoon character in scarlet disguise, not a real enemy intent on our demise.
Jesus settles our quaking hearts: “That conniving crook, Satan, comes only to steal, kill and destroy. But I have come to give you life, bountiful life.” (John 10:10)
4. Graveyards, skeletons, and death. At Halloween, we stare death in the eye. But it’s hard not to blink, when none of us will get out of this alive.
Jesus solves the perplexing mystery of mortality: “My Father’s will is that all you who look to Me with trusting faith shall have eternal life, and on the last day I will raise you up from your grave — fully alive, healthy, and whole!”
Wow! The startling promises of Jesus Christ dispel every nagging nightmare, so you can walk in God’s forgiveness, freedom, and light.
Jesus provides us every reason to not freak out.

Power
Our mission is to call people to the knowledge of the Living God. The only way we can accomplish that mission is by the power of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus gives.

Prayer Power
“Prayer Power” – by Pastor Chris Dodge
In a nation that is increasingly polarized and divided, the prayers of God’s people are more essential than ever.
The Scriptures resound with calls to prayer because God both desires and answers His children when they cry out to Him. Various forms of the word “pray/prayer” are found over 370 times in the Bible. Here are just a few examples:
– Devote yourselves to prayer… (Colossians 4:2)
– Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Luke 18:1)
– Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
– Pray in the Spirit on all occasions (Ephesians 6:18)
– The prayer of a righteous person is powerful (Jas.5:16)
An “appeal to Heaven” is more desperately needed than ever before. I encourage you to take a listen to “Prayer Power.”
Abundant blessings,

5 Differences between Sheep and Goats: Which are you?
5 Differences between Sheep and Goats: Which are you? by Pastor Phil Bickel
There are some distinct differences between sheep and goat. Check out some of them below and then take a listen to Pastor Chris Dodge’s teaching “Sheep and Goats.”
1. Diet.

- Sheep graze on tender grasses.
- Goats eat anything – even garbage.
- What am I consuming these days?
- What does the Lord place on my table to nourish me?
2. Offspring.
- Sheep keep their young close by.
- Goats wander off, letting their kids be raised by other kids.
- Do I oversee my kids, or overlook them?
3. Social structure.
- Sheep have a level social structure, not contending for dominance.
- Goats are hierarchical, butting heads to reach the top.
- Do I look out for #1 or lay aside selfish ambition?
4. Intelligence. Recent studies reveal the sheep are much brighter than formerly thought.
- We assume sheep are stupid, because they are totally defenseless.
- We assume goats are intelligent, because they are fiercely independent.
- How regularly does my unbridled will get me into hot water?
- When in danger, do I depend on my wits and weapons or on the Lord’s rod and staff?
5. Shepherd.
- Sheep willingly follow their shepherd, under whom they thrive.
- Goats lead themselves, obeying a shepherd only when convenient.
- Do I walk with Jesus the Good Shepherd, or chart my own course?
- Am I surviving on my own, or thriving under His care?
